Getting started

  1. Install Mint Access from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Open the app from your Shopify admin and click Scan my store.
  3. If your store is password protected, enter the storefront password when asked (Online Store → Preferences). It's used for that scan only and never stored.

Fixing issues

Each issue explains why it matters and how to fix it in Shopify. Many fixes are settings in the theme editor (for example colour schemes, image alt text or video settings). For fixes in theme code, make a backup first: go to Online Store → Themes, click ⋯ next to your live theme and choose Duplicate. Then open Edit code and go to the file shown in your report. Run a new scan to confirm the fix.

AI alt text

  1. Open Alt text in the app. You'll see product images with missing or file-name alt text.
  2. Click Suggest alt text. Suggestions appear in the table within a few seconds.
  3. Read each one, edit it if needed, then click Approve (or Approve all). The alt text is saved to the product image in Shopify.

AI can get details wrong (for example colours or materials), so please check each suggestion against the photo before approving. Good alt text describes what's in the image in one short sentence.

Accessibility statement

Open Accessibility statement in the app, edit the details so they're true for your store, then click Copy HTML. In Shopify go to Online Store → Pages → Add page, click the Show HTML button in the editor, paste, and save. Add the page to your footer menu.

About accessibility and the law

Mint Access helps you find and fix common accessibility issues against WCAG 2.2 AA. It doesn't guarantee compliance with any law and isn't legal advice. Automated checks can't find every issue, so we recommend also testing key pages with a keyboard and a screen reader.

Pro is billed through Shopify at $9.99/month after a 7-day free trial. Cancel anytime from the app's Plans page or by uninstalling the app — you won't be charged again.
