What it checks

Real issues, grouped by WCAG criterion

Every issue comes with its severity, why it matters, how to fix it in Shopify and — where we can tell — the theme file it probably comes from.

WCAG 1.1.1

Images without useful alt text

Missing alt text, and alt text that's really a file name like IMG_2041.jpg. Product images can be fixed in a few clicks with AI suggestions.

WCAG 2.4.4 · 4.1.2

Links and buttons with no name

Icon-only cart, search, menu and social links that a screen reader announces as just “link” or “button”.

WCAG 4.1.2 · 3.3.2

Form fields without labels

Newsletter, search and quantity fields that rely on placeholder text or nothing at all.

WCAG 1.4.3

Colour contrast

We read every colour scheme in your theme settings and compute real WCAG contrast ratios, plus text coloured inline on your pages.

WCAG 3.1.1 · 2.4.2 · 1.4.4

Language, titles and zoom

Missing page language, empty page titles, and mobile viewports that stop shoppers pinch-zooming.

WCAG 1.3.1 · 2.4.1 · 1.4.2

Structure and media

Missing or skipped headings, no skip link, duplicate IDs, untitled frames and videos that autoplay with sound.

FAQ

Questions merchants ask

Will this make my store compliant, or protect me from legal claims?

No tool can promise that, and we won't. Mint Access helps you find and fix common accessibility issues against WCAG 2.2 AA. Automated checks catch a meaningful share of problems but not all of them, so we also recommend testing your key pages with a keyboard and a screen reader. It isn't legal advice or a certification.

How is this different from an accessibility overlay widget?

Overlays add a script to your storefront that tries to patch pages in each shopper's browser. Mint Access doesn't add anything to your storefront. It shows you the actual issues in your theme and content, and helps you fix them at the source, so the fixes work for every visitor and every assistive technology.

Does it change my theme?

No. Mint Access only reads your theme to check colour settings and suggest which file an issue probably comes from. The only thing it writes is product image alt text — and only the text you approve.

How does the AI alt text work?

When you ask for suggestions, the product photo and title are sent to Cloudflare Workers AI, which runs an image-understanding model and returns a short description. You review and edit each one; nothing is saved to your products until you approve it.

My store is password protected. Can I still scan it?

Yes. Enter your storefront password when you scan. It's used for that scan only and never stored.

Make your store easier for everyone to shop.

A free scan takes under a minute. Built by Mint Labs.
